04 Nov When Turnover Remains High: Who is Accountable?
As a #civilengineering recruiter, I’m constantly reviewing resumes and LinkedIn profiles, and over time, patterns start to jump out at me. Some firms just seem to have a revolving door—consistent high turnover for years on end. What does that say?
To me, it says one of three things:
✔️Leadership doesn’t care about turnover.
✔️They’re repeatedly making bad hires.
✔️(And most likely) They aren’t taking a hard look in the mirror to figure out what’s really going wrong internally.
It’s frustrating to see. It seems like ego often gets in the way, and there’s no real accountability at the top for the environment they’re creating. If company leadership is so set in their ways that they won’t adapt their culture or address problems, then maybe they need to focus more on hiring people who are truly a fit for that exact environment and making sure candidates understand what they’re signing up for.
For all the civil engineering pros out there—what do you think? Do you see this in our field? What’s the answer—better hiring practices, culture changes, or something else?
